Small Steps Lead to Big Changes

Infinite Future is a sustainability consulting firm that helps individuals and businesses minimize environmental impact and reduce energy costs. If you’re not acting sustainably or benefiting from your sustainability practices, you’re missing a huge opportunity.

Infinite Future’s sustainability consulting team includes:

Craig Williams II

“I've been a passionate environmentalist for most of my life and find it an easy topic to spend hours reading or talking about. I enjoy helping others learn about the environment and how they can lessen their impact or change to a positive impact. I've reached the point in my life where I can follow Mark Twain's advice about success: ‘…to make your vocation your vacation.’  For me, that’s sustainability consulting. I invite you to join me in my journey to make this world more sustainable for the future of all humanity.”

Infinite Future’s Philosophy

Incremental changes in behavior can make a big difference in sustaining our planet and preserving resources. This “small steps” philosophy guides our sustainability consulting process.

Craig explains:

I believe that a few small changes made by many people can easily have a very large impact on the problem of global climate change. You and I or even the government may not be able to come up with an agreeable solution to an issue this large. We don’t have to. Though a “moon shot” effort on the part of any nation would easily bring about massive change, that is also difficult to initiate for a multitude of political and socio-economic reasons. Therefore, if we can break this huge problem into many small solutions, constructive change will happen in the same way that destructive change brought us to this point.

What is Sustainability?

A consensus is emerging about how to define the complex issue of sustainability. The experts have captured the essence of the concept in four principles which provide the foundation for Infinite Future’s hands-on sustainability consulting.

The Natural Step, an international nonprofit organization, describes sustainability this way:

  • Eliminate our contribution to the progressive buildup of substances extracted from the Earth's crust (for example, heavy metals and fossil fuels).
  • Eliminate our contribution to the progressive buildup of chemicals and compounds produced by society (for example, dioxins, PCBs, and DDT).
  • Eliminate our contribution to the progressive physical degradation and destruction of nature and natural processes (for example, continued over-harvesting forests and continued paving of critical wildlife habitat).
  • Eliminate our contribution to conditions that undermine people’s capacity to meet their basic human needs (for example, unsafe working conditions and not enough pay to meet basic human needs).
